Each of the Cwejen came from a different timeline of the original Chris Cwej, giving their masters a large range of abilities to use. (PROSE: The Book of the War)

They existed in three types: the original (blond and handsome) "Cwej-Prime", the fat and balding "Cwej-Plus", and the monstrous and heavily armoured "Cwej-Magnus". Each type existed in multiple iterations, which the Great Houses planned to use as an "Army of One". One of the Cwejen was present at a mysterious incident in the Hollywood Bowl, which may have been a point of contact with the Enemy. (PROSE: The Book of the War)

A Cwej-Prime who called himself Abschrift was involved in hunting rogue members of the Great Houses who escaped into the multiverse at the behest of House Mirraflex. To do so, he allied himself with a parallel Nazi Germany that was never defeated. With the Great Houses' technology, that Germany began to conquer its neighbouring parallel Earths. (PROSE: Warlords of Utopia)

The Cwejen did not retain the conscious memories of their progenitor, but they were affected by his memories on an unconscious level. Some of the Cwejen went mad and began secretly worshiping a figure they called "the pale god" or "Mister Seven". Several of these Cwejen, including Septimus, worked with Straxus on Earth in the 19th century before turning on him and forcing his regeneration. Bernice Summerfield and an earlier incarnation of Straxus defeated the mad Cwejen, which were taken back to Gallifrey for dissection. (AUDIO: The Adventure of the Diogenes Damsel)
