The Eleven-Day Empire was the home base of Faction Paradox. The territory was purchased from King George II of England by Grandfather Paradox under the "Gregorian Compact", when that country switched over from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar in 1752, causing eleven days — 2 September through 14 September 1752 — to be "lost" from the month of September. The people's belief that the relevant time had been "lost" was sufficient to power the creation of an alter-time state.

Six hundred and thirty Mothers and Fathers of the Faction Paradox sat in the House of Commons found in the Empire's version of London. The speaker's chair was empty, waiting for the return of Grandfather Paradox. (PROSE: Interference - Book One)
Russia continued to use the Julian calendar until after the Bolshevik revolution of 1917. By this time the discrepancy between the calendars was thirteen days, providing the source of the Thirteen-Day Republic. (PROSE: The Book of the War)
